Salem Staff Attorney
Position: Oregon Law Center (OLC) seeks a staff attorney with up to five years experience to conduct outreach and provide civil legal services for low-income communities in Marion, Polk, and Linn-Benton Counties, including Spanish speaking communities. The position will be located in Salem.
Background: OLC is an effective legal services program committed to achieving justice for the low-income communities of Oregon by providing a full range of the highest quality civil legal services. OLC does not receive funding from the federal Legal Services Corporation. OLC operates offices located in Coos Bay, Grants Pass, Hillsboro, McMinnville, Ontario, Portland, Salem, St. Helens, and Woodburn. It also has a state support unit, legislative advocacy unit, and statewide farm worker program.
The Salem office of OLC has two attorneys and one office manager. It is located adjacent to the Marion Polk Legal Aid Service office that has five additional legal aid attorneys. OLC’s priorities are client based and change from year-to-year as client needs change. The attorneys in this office are responsible for working closely with partners in Oregon’s coordinated civil legal services delivery system to identify and address the client based priorities in Marion, Polk, and Linn-Benton Counties.
Responsibilities: The attorney in this position is expected to engage in a combination of impact litigation and service cases, with a significant emphasis on impact work in state and federal courts. An important aspect of this position is to engage in community outreach to the client community, client based organizations and other partners. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a real difference for the low-income communities of Oregon.
Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income communities. A high degree of initiative and willingness to work collaboratively. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Experience representing low-income clients on administrative law, housing law, civil rights law, employment law, consumer law, and/or class actions a plus. Ability to speak Spanish fluently is required. Experience serving Spanish speaking communities is preferred. Admission to Oregon Bar or willingness to take next exam. Position open until filled.
